I think it's important to note that the driver is indeed loaded. I've been asked to evaluate and approve a Latitude 5420 also and am seeing the same error message in device manager. What we need to fix this problem is an updated IntelRST driver, either from Dell or Intel, that supports this device hardware id. (The underlying problem is that a driver simply doesn't exist that supports this hardware device id.) Since the hardware id (DEV_A0D3) is embedded inside the hardware, I don't see that a BIOS update, or rollback, will help as that doesn't change the internal embedded hardware id in this device.

Drivers got loaded for all devices except for this one.įYI - I downloaded the Dell WinPE pack drivers and the Dell CAB deployment driver for the Latitude 5420, but these packs also do not contain a storage driver that supports this hardware device id. I re-imaged the computer from scratch and am having the same issue where there is no driver available for the "Standard SATA AHCI Controller" that exists whey you have your Storage option set to AHCI/NVMe mode in BIOS.Īs a final test, I re-imaged again and attempted to load all hardware drivers via Windows Updates from Microsoft. So I flashed the BIOS of the laptop with this version and it does not help resolve the issue of not having a proper IntelRST driver that works with DEV_A0D3 devices. I noticed there is a new BIOS released today, Maof version 1.4.9.

(Please Note: If the Storage option in BIOS is set to RAID, you will not see this device and instead see a Intel RST VMD Controller with a different device id code, that would use a different driver, but again, the RAID option does not work thus we must use the AHCI mode.)Īs I mentioned, none of the IntelRST drivers from Intel or the Dell 5420 drivers download page support this particular (DEV_A0D3) device and there is no way to load a proper driver for this storage controller.

BUT, the device id code for this device does not exist in any IntelRST driver available from Dell or Intel.įor reference, the hardware id for this device is: I'm familiar with this style device as it exists in most all other computer models we have in our environment. However, after imaging with the option set to AHCI/NVMe in BIOS, inside of Windows Device Manager is a device with the 'yellow' exclamation point named "Standard SATA AHCI Controller". (It is a bit confusing why the laptop came with the option set to RAID, yet there is only a single hard drive in the laptop.) Therefore, I had to change this option to "AHCI/NVMe", which is actually a normal option to use if you ask me, and then I have no trouble imaging the computer. Our WinPE boot disks (created using the standard Microsoft Deployment Toolkit - MDT), do not see this controller and our imaging task cannot format the hard drive, even though I have integrated the Intel RST VMD Controller driver into this WinPE boot disk. In the Storage menu of the BIOS, it was initially set to "RAID On" mode. We request you to download the Intel SATA drivers directly from the Intel website. We are currently reviewing a demo of the Dell Latitude 5420 laptop and I am seeing this exact same problem. I have received reply from the concerned team. “Thank you for contacting ASUS technical support. I had opened a support ticked with ASUS tech support and this is the response I received:

Now under the IDE ATA/ATAP Controllers heading I only have ONE entry instead of the original three: Standard SATA AHCI Controller. I went to ASMEDIA website and downloaded their latest SATA Drivers and now under the Storage Controllers heading I have the following 3 entries: two Asmedia 106x SATA Controllers and one Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller. I really appreciate your help! When I first posted a few days back in device manager I had listed under the IDE ATA/ATAP Controllers heading the following 3 entries: Standard SATA AHCI Controller. The Intel sata driver installs with the chipset driver.
